Hotel Description

You know what? I walked past Der Zauberlehrling probably a dozen times before I actually noticed it tucked away on Rosenstraße – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The name means “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” in German, which sounds a bit whimsical for a 4-star hotel, but once you step inside, you get it. There’s something genuinely magical about the place that has nothing to do with tourist gimmicks and everything to do with thoughtful design and that rare combination of professionalism and warmth you don’t find everywhere.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Stuttgart at all. You’re right in Stuttgart-Mitte, which means you can walk to the main pedestrian zone in about three minutes, but Rosenstraße itself is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with late-night street noise (I’m looking at you, hotels near the Hauptbahnhof). The staff seems to genuinely care about what they’re doing – check-in was smooth, and they knew exactly which restaurants were worth walking to for dinner. I mean, they didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map; they actually marked specific places and explained why each one was good. The rooms have this interesting mix of contemporary German design with subtle nods to the fairy tale theme, but it’s done tastefully. Nothing cutesy or over-the-top, just thoughtful touches that make you smile rather than cringe.

What really won me over was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. The beds are properly comfortable – not just hotel-room adequate – and the bathrooms have excellent water pressure, which shouldn’t be noteworthy but somehow always is. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of the city (welcome to German city centers), but they’ll sort you out with directions to nearby options. The breakfast spread is solid without being overwhelming, and they use local suppliers, which you can actually taste in the bread and jams. I stayed during a busy trade fair period when half of Stuttgart was booked solid, and the service never felt rushed or impersonal. That 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, but it’s the kind of place that gets the important stuff right and adds just enough personality to make your stay memorable for the right reasons.

Stuttgart’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of German engineering precision and modern comfort, with many featuring automotive tour services and traditional Swabian hospitality.

Reviews

  • Funky, fun + very friendly – Max from Germany – June 15, 2025 (7/10)

Very friendly staff + funky, innovative room-design

What could be improved: In my room it was a little bit the case of concept over practicality, as the kind-of-cool presence of the open shower, in the middle of the bathroom-area, was fun but meant that after using it, it was impossible to go into the bathroom without getting my feet wet. My friend‘s room was also very nice and funky in its own way, but functional – without the practicality imbroglio.

  • Exceptional – Paula from United Kingdom – November 25, 2024 (9/10)

It’s quirky and very well located for central Stuttgart and some lovely restaurants

What could be improved: All was lovely

  • Great location and helpful staff – David from United Kingdom – October 10, 2024 (8/10)

The welcome and helpfulness of the owner
    Clean and spacious room
    Good shower.
    Lots of restaurants nearby
    Close to U bahn station

What could be improved: The water tap in the bathroom

  • Very Good – Christin from United States – July 10, 2024 (8/10)

    Unique! Clean and relaxing

What could be improved: Air conditioning was stressed during hot summer days. It was hot in the room.

  • Fabulous – Laila from United States – May 23, 2024 (9/10)

Great location right next to tram and cute street.

  • Very Good – Bonde from India – May 22, 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Expensive food

  • Lovely and restful. – Romain from France – April 29, 2024 (9/10)

Breakfast was really good, despite the fact that we had to eat in 1h15min time for it (which was actually enough, but that doesn't help to have a free minded time).
Location is close to the city center by feet, very convenient.
The shower inside and the bath outside are great!

What could be improved: A dirty towel has been left on the bed on the balcony.
Having slippers would be very convenient in this room: as the wooden floor of the bathroom is almost always wet.
    Limited time for breakfast.

  • Perfect central location for me to visit the museums of Porsche and Mercedes – John from United Kingdom – June 16, 2023 (8/10)

Staff were brilliant and the hotel has exceptionally secure and well located central parking for sports car visitors to Stuttgart

What could be improved: room did not have a table / desk area, I find that handy as I need to use my laptop for work!

  • Wonderful room – Agnieszka from Poland – March 12, 2023 (9/10)

Wonderful room, amazing architecture, we loved the bathtub, open bathroom.
The room is big, comfortable, there were candles, mini bar, enough towels, floor heating in a shower area.

What could be improved: There is just a small coffee machine, I would add kettle and a tea.

  • Very Good – Jozsef from Switzerland – February 18, 2023 (8/10)

Good location, mid-town is in walking distance, parking space in the building, room is gorgeous.
Breakfast is in the restaurant in front of the hotel, food is good, mint tea is disappointing, 2-3 leaves in hot water, so it did not have any mint favor.

What could be improved: unfortunately the room was soaked during the night, water was flowing through the chandelier, we could not sleep and couldn't notify anyone as the hotel has no 0-24 reception.
