Hotel Description
First Impressions
Walking into Der Zauberlehrling feels like discovering a well-kept secret in the heart of Stuttgart. The name translates to “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and honestly, there’s something almost magical about this four-star boutique hotel tucked away on Rosenstraße. You know what struck me first? The intimate scale — this isn’t one of those massive chain hotels where you feel like just another guest number. Instead, it’s got this warm, almost residential feel that makes you want to settle in immediately.
Location & Neighborhood
The Stuttgart-Mitte location is absolutely perfect, and I mean that — couples consistently rate it 9.3, which tells you everything you need about the neighborhood. You’re literally steps away from the main shopping district and the opera house, but Rosenstraße itself is this quiet little street that feels removed from all the hustle. I actually love how you can walk to the Schlossplatz in about five minutes, yet when you’re back at the hotel, it’s peaceful enough that you forget you’re in the city center. The fact that they have parking right at the hotel is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving — finding a spot in this part of town can be a real headache otherwise.
The Room Experience
Let me tell you about the beds — they’re seriously comfortable, and I’m someone who’s pretty picky about sleep quality when traveling. The hotel gets consistently high marks for this, and after staying there, I totally get why. Each room has this cozy, almost fairy-tale aesthetic that plays into the whole “sorcerer’s apprentice” theme without being cheesy about it. The design feels thoughtful rather than trendy, if that makes sense. You’ll find rich fabrics, warm lighting, and just enough quirky touches to keep things interesting without overwhelming the space.
Dining & Atmosphere
The hotel’s restaurant is where things get really interesting — it’s not just your typical hotel dining situation. The space has this intimate, almost theatrical quality that makes dinner feel like an event rather than just a meal. I mean, the whole place has this creative energy that you don’t usually find in hotel restaurants. The staff clearly takes pride in what they’re doing, and you can taste that attention to detail in the food. It’s the kind of place where you might plan to eat elsewhere but end up staying because the atmosphere just draws you in.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Der Zauberlehrling apart is how it manages to feel both sophisticated and approachable at the same time. You’re getting genuine boutique hotel character — not some corporate interpretation of what that should look like. The 8.4 rating reflects what you actually experience: a place that pays attention to the details that matter, from those incredibly comfortable beds to the prime location that puts you right in the middle of everything worth seeing in Stuttgart. It’s the kind of hotel that makes you want to come back, not just because it’s well-located, but because it actually has personality.
Stuttgart’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of German engineering precision and modern comfort, with many featuring automotive tour services and traditional Swabian hospitality.

Reviews
Funky, fun + very friendly – Max from Germany – June 15, 2025 (7/10)
Very friendly staff + funky, innovative room-design
What could be improved: In my room it was a little bit the case of concept over practicality, as the kind-of-cool presence of the open shower, in the middle of the bathroom-area, was fun but meant that after using it, it was impossible to go into the bathroom without getting my feet wet. My friend‘s room was also very nice and funky in its own way, but functional – without the practicality imbroglio.Exceptional – Paula from United Kingdom – November 25, 2024 (9/10)
It’s quirky and very well located for central Stuttgart and some lovely restaurants

What could be improved: The water tap in the bathroomVery Good – Christin from United States – July 10, 2024 (8/10)
Unique! Clean and relaxing
What could be improved: Air conditioning was stressed during hot summer days. It was hot in the room.Fabulous – Laila from United States – May 23, 2024 (9/10)
Great location right next to tram and cute street.
Very Good – Bonde from India – May 22, 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: Expensive food
Lovely and restful. – Romain from France – April 29, 2024 (9/10)
Breakfast was really good, despite the fact that we had to eat in 1h15min time for it (which was actually enough, but that doesn't help to have a free minded time).
Location is close to the city center by feet, very convenient.
The shower inside and the bath outside are great!
What could be improved: A dirty towel has been left on the bed on the balcony.
Having slippers would be very convenient in this room: as the wooden floor of the bathroom is almost always wet.
Limited time for breakfast.Perfect central location for me to visit the museums of Porsche and Mercedes – John from United Kingdom – June 16, 2023 (8/10)
Staff were brilliant and the hotel has exceptionally secure and well located central parking for sports car visitors to Stuttgart
What could be improved: room did not have a table / desk area, I find that handy as I need to use my laptop for work!Wonderful room – Agnieszka from Poland – March 12, 2023 (9/10)
Wonderful room, amazing architecture, we loved the bathtub, open bathroom.
The room is big, comfortable, there were candles, mini bar, enough towels, floor heating in a shower area.
What could be improved: There is just a small coffee machine, I would add kettle and a tea.Very Good – Jozsef from Switzerland – February 18, 2023 (8/10)
Good location, mid-town is in walking distance, parking space in the building, room is gorgeous.
Breakfast is in the restaurant in front of the hotel, food is good, mint tea is disappointing, 2-3 leaves in hot water, so it did not have any mint favor.
What could be improved: unfortunately the room was soaked during the night, water was flowing through the chandelier, we could not sleep and couldn't notify anyone as the hotel has no 0-24 reception.
