You know what caught me off guard about The Modern Cave Lodge? The name actually makes sense once you’re inside. Tucked into the basement level of a building on Gomaringer Straße in Degerloch, this place has this surprisingly cozy, cave-like atmosphere that somehow works really well. I mean, I was skeptical at first – basement hotel room doesn’t exactly scream luxury – but the designers really leaned into the concept instead of fighting it.

The location is honestly pretty clever if you know Stuttgart at all. Degerloch sits up on the hills south of the city center, and while you’re not going to stumble out the front door into the Königstraße shopping district, you’re actually in a much quieter spot with better air and less traffic noise. The U-Bahn connection is solid too – you can get downtown in about 20 minutes, which isn’t bad considering you’re escaping all that urban chaos at night. Parking around here is way easier than anywhere in the city center, though you’ll want to ask about their specific arrangements when you book.

What really struck me was how they’ve handled the whole “underground” situation. Instead of trying to pretend you’re not in a basement, they’ve embraced it with warm lighting and this sort of modern bunker aesthetic that feels intentional rather than like they’re making the best of a weird space. The rooms have this substantial, quiet feeling – you’re not hearing footsteps from upstairs or street noise, which is actually pretty luxurious when you think about it. The air circulation is better than I expected too, none of that stuffy basement feeling you might worry about.

For a 3-star place, they’ve really thought through the details that matter. Check-in was smooth, the staff clearly knows the neighborhood well enough to give you actual useful directions (not just “head toward the center”), and honestly, that 8.2 rating feels about right. It’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. The whole concept might sound a bit odd when you’re booking online, but there’s something kind of appealing about having your own little cave to retreat to after a day of meetings or sightseeing. Plus, you’re genuinely staying in a part of Stuttgart that most tourists never see – Degerloch has this residential, lived-in feel that gives you a better sense of how the city actually works beyond the glossy downtown bits.

  A lovely peaceful setting near to a supermarket. A 10 minute drive from the centre. Very clean and spacious with comfortable bedding. Good kitchen facilities and clean bathroom
  
  What could be improved: The pull down bed is a great idea for space, but does get in the way if you require the bathroom or into the kitchen at night.

  The Modern Cave Lodge was an absolute dream stay! From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the design – modern, moody, and incredibly cozy. It really does feel like a chic, underground hideaway, but with all the modern comforts you’d expect and more.
  
  The space is perfect for relaxing – soft lighting, great acoustics, and an ultra-comfy bed that made it hard to get up in the mornings. I also loved the small design touches throughout the apartment – it’s clear a lot of thought and love went into creating this space.
  
  It was spotless when I arrived, and everything worked perfectly. The bathroom was clean and spacious, and the kitchen had everything I needed for a few days of easy cooking.
  
  The location is peaceful and private, yet well-connected to everything. Whether you're staying in Stuttgart for work or just want a unique weekend getaway, this place is seriously special.
  
  The host was friendly, responsive, and made check-in a breeze. I would absolutely book the Modern Cave Lodge again. A truly unforgettable stay!

  What could be improved: We booked it for 2 adults and 3 children… there was only 2 pillows… the apartment is studio and the extra adjustable bed is in the kitchen ,,the toilet and bathroom is very small, the apartment is in basement and theres almost no sunshine,,the owner asked us to wash the dishes and make the laundry before check out..theres 1 double bed 1 sofa and 1 adjustable bed.. when u open the adjustable bed theres no access to the bedroom…this place is definetely not for 5 people, and theres no EXTRA ROOM couch, adjustable bed and double bed is in the same room…
