Hotel Description

You know what surprised me most about Waldhotel Stuttgart? It actually feels like you’ve escaped the city completely, even though you’re technically still in Stuttgart. The place sits up in Degerloch – and I mean really up there, which is half the charm – surrounded by this gorgeous forest that makes you forget there’s a major city sprawling below you.

The hotel itself has this understated elegance thing going on that works really well. None of that flashy lobby nonsense you get at some places, just solid wood, clean lines, and windows that frame the trees perfectly. Check-in was refreshingly quick (honestly, the staff here seems to actually know what they’re doing), and they mentioned the hiking trails right from the property without me even asking – which tells you they get that people come here for the nature access, not just a bed. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star place, but here’s the thing: the soundproofing is excellent. You’d think being in the forest would guarantee quiet, but I’ve stayed at “secluded” hotels where you still hear traffic or construction. Not here. Just birds in the morning, which is actually pretty nice if you’re into that sort of wake-up call.

What really sets this place apart is the location – Guts-Muths-Weg might sound like a mouthful, but it puts you right at the edge of some fantastic walking paths. I mean, you can literally step out the front door and be on trails that wind through proper Black Forest scenery. The TV Tower (Fernsehturm) is walkable from here if you’re feeling ambitious, and the views from up there are worth the climb. Getting back into the city center is easy enough with the U-Bahn, though honestly, after a day exploring Stuttgart’s museums or shopping on Königstraße, coming back up to this quiet spot feels like a reward. Parking was completely hassle-free, which – if you’ve ever tried to park in Stuttgart proper – you’ll appreciate more than you might expect. The restaurant is solid without being fancy, and they do a breakfast that’ll fuel you for a day of hiking or city exploring. I will say the place feels more alive during spring and summer when you can really take advantage of the outdoor spaces, but even in cooler months, there’s something cozy about being tucked away in the trees. It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why it’s earned that 8.9 rating – not because everything is perfect, but because what they do well, they do really well, and it’s exactly what you want from a forest hotel that doesn’t make you sacrifice comfort for location.

    Beautiful!

  • Cozy hideaway in the woods, very well connected to the city! – Megan from Germany – May 17, 2025 (9/10)

Verdant secret location, out of the city in the forest, but immediately adjacent to the metro which takes you into the center in 10 minutes. Super friendly staff; every interaction with front desk or bartenders was an absolute pleasure, and they were so kind about speaking English. The room was clean and modern with a super comfortable bed, marble shower with great pressure, and ours had a nice little Terrasse outside on the expansive green garden. It was such a pleasure to open the doors to the fresh air outside from the forest! We didn't have a chance to use the sauna, but thought it was lovely that the facility was available and robes were provided in the room.

What could be improved: The room came with a Nespresso machine and coffee accoutrements, which we appreciated, but the off-brand capsules were just not good. I think nespresso brand in a gentle roast would have been a preferable start to the day.

  • Relaxing and comfortable stay. Well looked after in a beautiful setting – Samantha from Germany – May 2, 2025 (10/10)

The peaceful woodland setting. Stylish decor, lovely terrace, restaurant and bar area. Comfortable modern rooms. Great service and friendly attentive professional staff

  • 1 night stay – Andreea from Romania – March 3, 2025 (9/10)

Room was very clean and spacious. Big shower and comfortable bed.

What could be improved: Pillows were a bit big, but that's a personal issue.

  • Really exceptional value for the price – Ross from Singapore – January 2, 2025 (10/10)

It really felt very premium, especially for the price. It was clean and comfortable and the room was beautiful.

What could be improved: Its location is quite isolated in a park by a sports area some distance from the city, but there is a metro stop nearby.

  • Exceptional – Colton from United States – December 12, 2024 (10/10)

How big the room was and the nice quiet hotel

What could be improved: One of the waitresses wasn’t the nicest and paying for parking
