Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel am Wilhelmsplatz? The location is actually pretty clever – it’s right on this quiet square that most tourists walk past without noticing, but you’re literally two minutes from Königstraße if you want to dive into Stuttgart’s main shopping chaos. I mean, Wilhelmsplatz itself has this old-world German charm that feels authentic rather than touristy, with locals cutting through on their way to work and older folks feeding pigeons in the morning. The hotel sits in what looks like a converted traditional building, so don’t expect some gleaming modern lobby – it’s more like stepping into someone’s well-maintained but lived-in home.
The rooms are honestly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place, nothing fancy but everything works properly. I appreciated that the windows actually open (you’d be surprised how rare that’s becoming), which is great because Stuttgart can get stuffy in summer, and you’ll hear the gentle sounds of the square rather than traffic noise. The beds are firm – very German, really – and while the bathrooms are on the smaller side, the water pressure is excellent and it gets hot quickly. What I really liked was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood; when I asked about good coffee that wasn’t Starbucks, the guy at the front desk drew me a little map to this tiny place on Eberhardstraße that locals use. That kind of insider knowledge is worth something, you know?
Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re positioning yourself really well for exploring Stuttgart properly. The Staatsoper is basically around the corner, and if you’re into that whole automotive history thing (which, let’s face it, is half the reason people come to Stuttgart), you can catch the S-Bahn to Mercedes-Benz Museum or Porsche without the hassle of driving in the city center. Parking can be tricky in this area, but there’s a public garage about a three-minute walk away that won’t completely destroy your budget. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow you away, but it won’t disappoint either. I’d say it’s perfect for travelers who want to feel like they’re staying somewhere with character rather than in some anonymous chain hotel, and who appreciate being able to walk to a proper German bakery for breakfast instead of relying on whatever continental spread the hotel offers. Plus, honestly, the value is pretty decent for what you get in a city where hotel prices can get ridiculous during trade fair season.

Old like 30 yearsFair walk from train station, but has all basic facilities and is clean. – Sven from United Kingdom – June 22, 2024 (8/10)
Most facilities there – bed, tv, shower, toilet, sink, chair. Quiet for sleeping. The female staff both pleasant and efficient. Nice phrase on the wall. Green coloured walls. Bar area downstairs, which I'm sure would be fine for some (I was in a hurry though this time, so didn't use it). Two bottles of mineral water were tasty and a nice touch.
What could be improved: Location it's biggest drawback. Maybe 25 minutes walk from train station. Also closeby to some seedy establishments and a scruffy area (though the hotel is absolutely fine itself).Very Good – Bas from Netherlands – February 3, 2024 (8/10)
Kind staff, great location, remarkably quiet environment, given the central location
good choice – Pam from Australia – May 30, 2023 (8/10)
very comfortable room in a very pleasant hotel. the position worked very well for us
Hotel in city center – Alejandro from Germany – October 22, 2022 (8/10)
It was in the center, for a low price
What could be improved: They just took my bag without notice, they tried charging my card without telling me. I said I would pay there, but instead I was charged without me knowing. That’s not right! Reception it’s supposed to be open enough time, for people to make their arrangements and payments
