You know what? Hotel Traube really surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to this corner spot on Brabandtgasse, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away in Plieningen. But sometimes the unassuming places are exactly what you need, especially when you’re trying to avoid the crazy prices in Stuttgart’s city center.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually in a proper neighborhood, not some touristy bubble. There’s a bakery literally around the corner where locals grab their morning bread (and trust me, the pretzels are legit), plus you’ve got that authentic suburban German vibe that most visitors never experience. The S-Bahn connection to downtown Stuttgart is pretty straightforward once you figure it out – takes about 20 minutes, which honestly isn’t bad considering you’re paying probably half what you’d spend near Königstraße. Parking was refreshingly stress-free too, which anyone who’s driven in German cities will appreciate.

What really struck me about the Traube was how… I mean, it just felt like they actually care about the details. The rooms aren’t fancy – we’re talking solid, clean, comfortable beds with that slightly firm German mattress thing going on – but everything works properly. Hot water that’s actually hot, WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the breakfast (when I managed to get downstairs early enough) had real local touches rather than that generic continental spread you get everywhere else. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions, and a couple of them knew enough English to help when my terrible German failed me completely. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – it’s a solid neighborhood hotel that happens to work really well for travelers who want to experience Stuttgart without the tourist markup. Plus, if you’re the type who likes exploring beyond the obvious attractions, Plieningen gives you this interesting glimpse into how regular Stuttgart folks actually live. I ended up walking around the area quite a bit and stumbled onto some surprisingly good local restaurants that definitely don’t make it into the guidebooks.

  We liked everything. When you’re travelling for awhile and living out of a suitcase it was refreshing to have some space and even a bathtub! Restaurant on site, shops close by. Carpark on site!

  The woman at the front desk was very nice, I like the vintage style of the hotel , bed was very comfy and clean.

  Breakfast was great; good variety and the food was good. And coffee was perfect!
  
  What could be improved: Getting the parking late at night. The owner had made sure we could get in to the car park by closing by car, but it was difficult to find him. Sorted out in about half an hour, just awkward with a young child at night.
