Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the PLAZA INN Rieker? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s refreshing. Walking up from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (literally a three-minute walk, I timed it), you’ll spot it on Friedrichstraße without any trouble. The building has that solid, no-nonsense German hotel vibe that actually grows on you.
The location is honestly the star here. I mean, being this close to the Hauptbahnhof could go either way – you’re either grateful for the convenience or cursing the train noise at 6 AM. Surprisingly though, once you’re inside, the street noise fades to a manageable hum. The rooms facing away from the station are quieter, but even the front-facing ones weren’t too bad when I stayed there in March. You’re basically in the heart of Stuttgart-Mitte, which means you can walk to Königstraße for shopping in about eight minutes, and the whole historic center is right there. Plus – and this matters if you’re not renting a car – the S-Bahn connections are right downstairs, so getting to places like the Mercedes-Benz Museum or even day trips to the Black Forest is dead simple.
The rooms themselves are… well, they’re proper 3-star rooms. Clean, functional, with that slightly dated European hotel charm that some people love and others find a bit tired. The beds are actually quite comfortable (firmer than what Americans might expect), and the bathrooms are compact but well-designed. What I appreciated was how everything just worked – hot water came quickly, the WiFi didn’t cut out every five minutes, and housekeeping clearly takes pride in their work. The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s substantial German fare that’ll fuel you for a day of wandering around the city. The staff at reception spoke excellent English and seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions – they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just tourist traps around Schlossplatz.
Look, this isn’t a boutique hotel with Instagram-worthy interiors or a luxury spot where you’ll want to spend your whole vacation lounging around. But if you need a reliable base for exploring Stuttgart, especially if you’re arriving by train or planning to use public transport, it’s actually a smart choice. The 7.2 rating feels about right – it does what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly for shorter business trips or as a launching pad for exploring the region.

What could be improved: Lift didn't workVery Good – Roumen from Bulgaria – October 13, 2024 (8/10)
good sized room, nice breakfast options, good location close to the railway station and the shopping street and transport
What could be improved: bathroom was small and the shower cabin was very tight fitting with a curtain. it was ok for regular sized people, but uncomfortable for larger onesNice staff, overpriced. – Sally from Ireland – September 29, 2024 (7/10)
Lovely staff, comfortable room, enough towels.
What could be improved: The bath was clogged by the previous guest so I couldn't use the shower. I had a packed schedule so couldn't approach staff to rectify the issue. A kettle should be provided with each room given the price.
