Hotel Description

You know what? ROSS Hotel totally caught me off guard when I first pulled up to Dreifelderstr. 36 in Plieningen. I mean, let’s be honest – Plieningen isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, but that’s actually part of what makes this place work. It’s tucked into this quiet residential area about 20 minutes south of Stuttgart’s city center, and while you might think that sounds inconvenient, it’s surprisingly refreshing to escape the urban hustle without really going anywhere.

The hotel itself has that clean, no-nonsense German efficiency thing down pat – think modern but not trying too hard to be trendy. When I walked into the lobby, it smelled like that particular combination of fresh coffee and subtle cleaning products that somehow screams “well-maintained European hotel.” The staff actually seemed to know what they were doing (novel concept, right?), and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. Now, I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t a luxury experience, and the 7.5 rating reflects that honest middle ground. The rooms are comfortable enough, though you can tell they’ve seen plenty of business travelers over the years. But here’s the thing that impressed me: everything just… works. The WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, the shower has decent water pressure, and the beds don’t feel like they were stuffed with yesterday’s newspapers.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how it connects you to actual Stuttgart life rather than tourist Stuttgart. You’re walking distance from some genuinely good local restaurants along Filderhauptstraße – the kind where you’ll hear more German than English, which honestly makes the food taste better somehow. Plus, if you’ve got a car (and in this part of town, you probably should), parking is actually manageable and won’t cost you a small fortune like it would downtown. The S-Bahn connection into the city center is pretty solid too, though you’ll want to check the weekend schedules because they get a bit spotty. I found myself appreciating the quieter evenings here – you can actually open your windows without the constant soundtrack of traffic and late-night revelers. It’s the kind of place that works particularly well if you’re in Stuttgart for business or if you’re one of those travelers who prefers to experience a city from a more residential perspective rather than staying right in the thick of the tourist zone. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobby shots, but sometimes you just want a solid, reliable base that doesn’t break the bank and lets you sleep properly.

Reviews

  • Old fashioned but comfortable and clean – Ruben from Netherlands – December 2, 2024 (9/10)

The bed and showers were very comfortable. Really felt comfortable. Also clean beds and showers.

What could be improved: The interior like, cupboards, cabinets, the tv, etc. felt a little outdated when it came to looks. Could use a small make-over to the looks of the room. But overall not bad.

  • Lovely over night stay – Schneider from Netherlands – September 18, 2024 (7/10)

It was a giant room that looked very nice and luxurious. Our son had a really nice wooden crib.
The room has beautiful furniture and the bathroom was also very nice.

What could be improved: There were a lot of spiderwebs

We found this lovely hotel close to the Stuttgart airport for two nights.
In spite of the proximity to the airport, there was no noise from the planes. It's a quick 15 minute drive to Stuttgart city center. The room was large and very clean with modern furnishings. The bed was very comfortable. We did not have breakfast at the hotel. There is plenty of parking on the street parallel to the hotel. You can find restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood but not walking distance from the hotel. It you have a car, this hotel is a great option.

What could be improved: Nothing to complain about

  • Very Good – Yehia from Egypt – August 4, 2023 (8/10)

very comfortable bed, clean room, silent environment
